BEFORE
THE PROJECT
The company had no web presence at all. They were aware of competitor
sites and the niche nature of their goods and felt that a website
would be an ideal way to provide detailed information on their
products and services and act as a contact point for current and
new customers.
DURING THE PROJECT
The entire website was designed from scratch. Each Trade Online
Project workshop introduced M & S Fire Protection to the
basics of building an effective web presence and helped plan
their first
site.
The impartial nature of the course meant topics like web hosting
could be honestly discussed and the pros and cons of different
options with different costs understood before decisions were
made.
Although M & S Fire Protection were not planning a full online
shop for their E-Start Project it was quickly realised that
their
products would need presented in a very professional manner due
to their relevance to office health and safety.
The online trading module demonstrates all the various e-commerce
shop options and this led to a shop catalogue style being incorporated
in to the site so products are clearly listed and presented to
the customer.
The quality and standards of the company were an important part
of the site design and the use of industry standard logos on the
website was discussed and implemented during the deisgn module
along with the colour scheme that relfects the company branding.
Finally a transactional element was added to the site by putting
a link to the customer contact form at the bottom of every product
page to encourage customer queries and capture new business from
the Internet.
The next page has some screenshots of the finished website.
